LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) – A Lee’s Summit West High School teacher has been charged in federal court on charges related to child pornography.
Seth Brummond, 37, of Greenwood, Missouri, was charged in a two-count criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, Dec. 19. The federal criminal complaint charges Brummond with one count of distributing child pornography over the Internet and one count of possessing child pornography from Sept. 1 to Dec. 18, 2024.
The affidavit provided sensitive details about this case as high school students leave for Christmas break on Friday afternoon.
A cyber tip noted the suspect, identified by their Kik username as “kingbonbon00,” uploaded multiple images of child pornography on the messaging app.
Upon further investigation by the Lee’s Summit Police Department, they found “kingbonbon00″ was associated to the home email address of Brummond.
Federal search warrants were issued to Brummond’s residence in Greenwood on Wednesday. Early Thursday morning, LSPD officers conducted surveillance before serving the warrants when they saw him leaving in his car. They followed him to Lee’s Summit and conducted a traffic stop where he was placed into custody.
Around 6 a.m., they found his iPhone as well as a computer tower in his car that have since been seized in anticipation of a search warrant. Search warrants for both devices are pending as of Friday evening.
While in police custody, he agreed to speak with investigators without an attorney.
KCTV5 will not provide the vivid descriptions provided in court documents but can confirm Brummond admitted to uploading 12 videos of children completely naked and/or performing sexual acts to group messages in the Kik app.
A motion filed in court alleges the girls in the images are under 12 years old.
He went on to say he knew it was immoral and did not get sexual gratification from the content, according to the documents.
Brummond was set to face the judge at his first court appearance Friday, Dec. 20 but it was delayed until Jan. 3, 2025.
The minimum punishment he could face for these alleged acts is five years in prison and the maximum is no more than 20 years.
KCTV5 has learned he was a math teacher at the school as well as the head coach of the Scholar Bowl team where he travelled to Atlanta with students for the national competition last year.
KCTV5 reached out to several parents of former or current students that have since posted online about their concerns.
Lee’s Summit School District released a statement stating Brummond has been placed on administrative leave.
