Report: LSU transfer QB Rickie Collins commits to Syracuse

LSU transfer QB Rickie Collins committed to Syracuse, according to a report from Syracuse.com’s Brent Axe. He spent two seasons with the Tigers before entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

Collins appeared in three games this past season as a redshirt freshman, completing all five of his pass attempts for 35 yards. He also added 18 rushing yards on the ground.

As a true freshman in 2023, Collins played in just one game. In that lone appearance against Grambling State, he went 2-for-2 passing for three yards while taking three carries for 19 yards. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Collins played high school football at Baton Rouge (La.) Woodlawn, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 234 overall player and No. 17-ranked quarterback from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Syracuse is coming off an impressive first season under head coach Fran Brown. The Orange went 9-3 during the regular season and quarterback Kyle McCord finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting after coming in from Ohio State.

Through the early part of the transfer portal window, Syracuse has brought in two commitments. Former Alabama offensive lineman Naquil Betrand and former Rutgers receiver Chris Long are both coming aboard. Rickie Collins marks the third newcomer for the Orange as the cycle enters its second full week.

Syracuse has been active in the quarterback market, as well. The Orange hosted former Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter for a visit before he committed to Colorado, and former Virginia quarterback Anthony Colandrea also planned a visit to SU. On3’s Pete Nakos had more on his recruitment earlier this week in his intel.
