What happens in La Palma?
On the picturesque island of La Palma, a freak accident kills tourists aboard a glass-bottomed boat. Days later, Fredrik (Baasmo) and Jennifer (Berdal) and their kids, Sara (Günther) and Tobias (Storm Lager), arrive for their annual vacation on the island and are feeling lucky when they get a major room upgrade. But their good fortune may soon run out. Geological researchers Marie (Loch Næss) and Haukur (Ólafsson) discover that an inevitable volcanic eruption could cause devastation not only on the island, but across continents. As a series of earthquakes hit La Palma, Marie and Haukur must convince their boss, Álvaro (de Juan), to take immediate action.

No, it’s fictional — but the island of La Palma is real, and so is Cumbre Vieja, the most active volcano on the Canary Islands. Just as depicted in the series, the volcano last erupted in 2021. Prior to that, it erupted in 1971 and 1949.
