Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Florida Democrat, is being considered as a top contender to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump. Sources close to the Trump transition team have confirmed Moskowitz’s potential candidacy for the role.

While it remains unclear whether Moskowitz has met with Trump to discuss the position, multiple individuals have identified him as a strong candidate for the position. If appointed, Moskowitz would become the highest-ranking Democrat in the Trump administration.

Following Trump’s election victory, Moskowitz has demonstrated a more amicable stance towards the incoming administration compared to some of his Democratic peers. He notably praised Trump’s selection of Susie Wiles as chief of staff on social media. Moskowitz and Wiles share a close relationship from their previous work in Florida politics.

Moskowitz made history by becoming the first Democrat to join the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) caucus in Congress. This group, established under the direction of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy at Trump’s behest, focuses on reducing government spending and regulations.

Recently re-elected to a second term in the US House, Moskowitz represents Broward County in South Florida. In the past, he introduced legislation aimed at elevating FEMA to a Cabinet-level position that directly reports to the president.
