Dallas Weather: Thunderstorms with hail, unseasonably warm weather hit DFW

By the Numbers

Is it usually this warm in December? That’s the question many Dallas-area residents were asking after waking up to unusually warm temperatures on Monday.

While temperatures in the 70s in mid-December may feel odd, Dallas saw similar conditions on this day last year.

On Dec. 16, 2023, temperatures were also in the low 70s.

The average temperature for Dec. 16 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is typically around 68 degrees, meaning today’s temperatures are about 6 degrees warmer than usual, but not drastically so.

Forecast Today

Expect warm and rainy conditions across the metroplex today, with a chance of thunderstorms.

Temperatures will remain in the mid-70s, with some areas possibly reaching the high 70s.

Spotty showers will affect North Texas this morning until around noon, followed by a break for a couple of hours.

Storms are expected to develop again this evening, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and the possibility of small hail.

What’s Next

Tuesday morning will bring cooler temperatures in the low 40s and 50s, but a warm front will push temperatures back into the low 70s by afternoon. The morning will be foggy, with spotty showers.

Wednesday will bring cooler, chillier conditions, with temperatures remaining in the 50s and a 40%-50% chance of showers throughout the day.

Be sure to grab an umbrella on Monday and Wednesday!
