Casting V In A Live-Action ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Adaptation

I posted what I thought was a relatively simple tweet in the wake of a news item that had Idris Elba talking about the potential of a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation when asked about it by Screen Rant.

“Oh, man, that’s a great question. I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa’ So, let’s speak that into existence.”

Obvious his character, Solomon Reed, and Keanu’s Johnny Silverhand, would be played by the actual actors. But what about V, I asked on Twitter, the player-created character who can be any gender? (Note: While there has been a live-action Cyberpunk project confirmed to be coming to Netflix, there aren’t indications it’s a straight 2077 adaptation, but I just want to have some fun).

In the tweet thread, there were many, many options proposed by fans, some more popular than others. I thought I would compile the most mentioned ones, or ones I thought were the best. So, here we are, starting with Fem V, and follow by Male V. A key here is that V is supposed to be 27 according to CDPR, though I suppose there’s some flexibility there. Most of these picks are indeed what people feel like is closer to “default V,” but again, they can be anyone.

Female V

Florence Pugh – She came up the most often, and as a great actress who we know can do action, I’m all for it.

Ana De Armas – She’s done some action so far and is about to break out fully in that genre with the John Wick-adjacent Ballerina.

Charlize Theron – You could essentially take her character from Mad Max and throw her straight into Cyberpunk already.

Tati Gabrielle – No, I am not trolling just because of the Intergalactic trailer. I’ve been following Gabrielle’s work since the post-apocalyptic The 100 and she could rock it.

Margaret Qualley – I am adding her after the fact despite no one suggesting her in the initial thread because she is on fire lately, and could destroy this role.

Hailee Steinfeld – Getting real close to the canon age in question here (28), and I think we can forget that V can be quite funny at times, which Steinfeld excels at.

Cherami Leigh – The actual voice actress for V should definitely be in the mix here given her stellar performance in the role. CDPR may be loyal to her and give her this shot (if this was a real project).

Male V

Aaron Paul – The most popular pick, male or female, of anyone mentioned in that thread. Easy to see, no question.

Dylan O’Brien – Supremely underrated actor and close to the right age. He’s got the default look as well.

Joel Kinnaman – Watch Altered Carbon season 1 and tell me he would not kill this. Albeit maybe it’s too close to that role.

Michael B Jordan – He’s got a superhero movie background and made Creed into a blockbuster franchise.

Wes Chatham – Amos in The Expanse, this guy should be a superstar already. Give him a huge shot like this.

Ryan Gosling – Maybe a bit too on the nose after Blade Runner 2049, but hey, we know how good he can do in a universe like this.

Oliver Jackson-Cohen – You know you’ve seen him around, even if you don’t know his name, between Haunting of Hill House, The Invisible Man and more. Great actor.
