With 28 Years Later kickstarting a brand new trilogy of movies next year, many horror fans have been wondering why the hell they can’t watch Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later at home. Physical media copies of the influential infection horror movie have been out-of-print for some time now, and the 2002 movie has also been unavailable to digitally stream in any capacity.
In other words, you literally haven’t been able to legally watch 28 Days Later at home without owning a physical copy of the movie, posing a huge problem for those who do not. Thankfully, Sony has stepped in to resolve the issue. They’ve announced this morning that the original 28 Days Later is coming to Digital just in time for the release of sequel 28 Years Later!
You’ll be able to rent or purchase 28 Days Later on Digital starting December 18, 2024!

It’s soon revealed that the chimpanzees had been harboring a deadly virus that sends its victims into a furious, murderous rage, and in the days following the initial exposure, the entire population was nearly wiped out due to the resulting homicidal rampage.

Luiz H.C. celebrated two decades of 28 Days Later here on Bloody Disgusting back in 2022. He wrote in his anniversary retrospective piece, “I believe that 28 Days Later is the absolute best zombie flick since Romero’s original Dead trilogy. Not only is it still a memorable scare-fest, but its human elements have aged like a fine wine over the years.”
28 Years Later will be unleashed in theaters on June 20, 2025 from Sony.
