Michigan predicted to land Big Ten QB in the transfer portal

After entering the transfer portal on Thursday evening, On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos quickly predicted the Michigan Wolverines to land former Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr.

Edwards is slated to take a visit to Wisconsin this weekend, but that didn’t stop the two experts at On3 from placing their predictions. Here’s what Nakos had to say:

Sources tell On3’s Steve Wiltfong and I that Michigan is the early leader to land Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards. Wiltfong and I have logged predictions in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Edwards to land at Michigan with 60% confidence. Sherrone Moore’s program is working to rebuild its wide receiver room in the portal, too.

As a redshirt junior in 2024, his first year as the starter at Maryland, Edwards was third in the Big Ten in passing with 2,881 yards, while also throwing 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 150 yards and five touchdowns.

Michigan has five-star Bryce Underwood in the fold for the 2025 season, but Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines have been transparent about adding a quarterback via the transfer portal this winter. Edwards makes sense for Michigan, as he is a proven leader and has a full year of starting in the Big Ten under his belt. He performed admirably, despite not having a ton of resources in College Park.

Obviously, the trip to Wisconsin this weekend could change things, but it’s good to see tow reputable sources place a prediction for Michigan to land Edwards. We will keep you all posted when updated are available.
