A moment of glory!
Back in August, female Italian boxer Angela Carini was competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but her journey ended up getting derailed after she had to take on biological male Imane Khelif, with the athlete even having XY chromosomes to provide the evidence.
There were a lot of expectations for Carini to potentially win a gold medal, but things went sour after she took a loss against Khelif. And the defeat only ratcheted up the debate around males in women’s sports, taking away opportunities from females and safety concerns for lady competitors. The situation brought out women’s rights activists who were outright furious about Carini’s loss, and that anger only shot up as Khelif went on to win the gold.
Fast forward a few months later, and Carini is back in the news, this time for winning her eighth Italian boxing championship. And not only does Carini’s victory remind people that she only lost in the Olympics because she faced off against a male, but it was viewed as “revenge” by Carini herself.
“Tonight was my revenge,” said Carini in reference to her loss to Khelif at the Olympics, according to The Telegraph’s Oliver Brown.
Some 2024 for Angela Carini. She endured anguish and gross unfairness at the Paris Olympics, forced to withdraw after 46 seconds against an opponent who had failed two sex tests.
