Mountain West adding UC Davis as non-football member

UNLV could soon be making trips to the Sacramento area.

The Mountain West Conference is working to add UC Davis as a non-football member beginning in 2026, according to multiple reports.

The Aggies would join the conference in 2026. Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger was the first to report the news on Tuesday, saying the deal is for all sports but football.

The addition continues the Mountain West’s rapid expansion efforts after five schools announced their departure for the Pac-12 earlier this year.

Hawaii announced it will become a full member after years of being a football affiliate only, while UTEP and Grand Canyon, the latter of which does not have a football team, will be new entrants.

These moves would give the conference 10 basketball schools and eight full members by the 2026-27 school year.

UC Davis is currently a member of the Big West Conference for 18 of its 25 sports. Its football team competes at the FCS level in the Big Sky Conference.
