Rosé shared her highly-anticipated debut solo album Rosie this past Friday (December 6). In a few days, the set, as well as the songs featured on its tracklist, will impact the Billboard charts, though exactly how is difficult to predict.
One week before Rosie dropped, Rosé shared a second single from the project. “Number One Girl” was all set to follow in the hugely successful footsteps of “Apt.,” the first tune shared from the project. That Bruno Mars-featuring tune dominated charts all around the world, but the Blackpink star couldn’t follow one smash up with another.
“Number One Girl” disappoints as it arrives on the Billboard charts in America. The tune fails to reach the Hot 100, the main songs ranking in the country. It does so even as “Apt.” is living inside the top 40, as it dips slightly to No. 22 this frame, after more than a month on the roster.
Rosé’s recent focus track didn’t even manage to hit any of the three rankings that help a tune reach the Hot 100. “Number One Girl” didn’t reach the Digital Song Sales, Streaming Songs, or Radio Songs charts. That’s surprising, as almost every tune released by the members of some of the biggest groups in K-pop usually at least sells well enough to land on the first tally in that list.
“Number One Girl” came very, very close to finding its way to the Hot 100, but competition proved to be too fierce. The single debuts at No. 1 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, which can be thought of as essentially a 25-spot extension of the main ranking.
For comparison’s sake, “Apt.” debuted at No. 8 on the Hot 100 in October. The tune also hit the runner-up space on both the Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs charts. This week, Rosé and Mars bring their collaboration to a new peak on the Radio Songs tally, as it lifts from No. 38 to No. 29.
Rosé has already moved on from “Number One Girl,” following the release of Rosie. The album’s third single is “Toxic Till the End,” which wasn’t shared until the collection arrived in full. Both that focus cut, as well as “Number One Girl,” could become hits in short order.
