FORT LIBERTY — Fort Liberty officials said an armed individual was “contained” near the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters on the installation Thursday afternoon.
Col. Mary Ricks, a spokeswoman for the 18th Airborne Corps, said at about 3:30 p.m. that Fort Liberty emergency services were on the scene. The incident was not an active shooter situation, she said.
“They have confirmed there is a situation that is still active, but it is contained,” Ricks said.
Ricks said law enforcement officers are also on the scene.
“We will have more information as it becomes available,” she said.
